Panel discussion moderated by Leonardo Vivas with the participation of Carlos Blanco, Visiting Professor at Boston University and Ana Julia Jatar, Fellow of the Carr Center for Human Rights, KSG at Harvard University. Moderator: Leonardo Vivas, member of Venered is the former Director of Industry at the Development Ministry in Venezuela ; fellow and associate researcher at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University ; and founder and Executive Director of Latin Roost. Mr. Vivas is finishing a forthcoming book about Chavez and Venezuela provisionally titled, Chavez, Democracy or Revolution?
Presenter: Paul Demakis, graduate student at The Fletcher School, former Massachusetts Legislator and former member of Transparency International Venezuela.ParticipantsAna Julia Jatar is a former member of the Executive Committee and Director of the Political Discrimination Project at SUMATE in Venezuela; former head of the anti-trust government agency in Venezuela; former Senior Fellow at the Inter-American Dialogue in Washington DC; former director of the Dialogue's Cuba Program; former co-host of Choque de Opiniones on CNN en Espanol; former fellow at the David Rockefeller Center , where she investigated the growing economic and political bonds between Fidel Castro's and Hugo Chavez's governments. She is member of the Editorial Committee of El Nacional . Dr. Jatar has a PhD in economics from Warwick University in the UK.Carlos Blanco is a Professor at the Universidad Central de Venezuela, fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University and Visiting Scholar at Boston University since 2005. He has been a Research Scholar in the David RockefellerCenter for Latin American Studies and served as Minister for the Reform of the State and President of the Presidential Commission for State Reform in Venezuela. Professor Blanco's books include Revolucion y Desilusion / La Venezuela de Hugo Chavez; Venezuela, Del Siglo XX al Siglo XXI: Un Projecto Para Construirla (editor). Dr. Blanco holds a B.A. from Universidad Central de Venezuela, a M.A. at Centro de Estudios del Desarrollo and a Ph.D. from Universidad Central de Venezuela
